If you’re a fan of the Hack-n-Slash genre of games, Ninja Gaiden needs no introduction–considered as one of the three pioneers of the entire genre along with the Devil May Cry and the Bayonetta series of games, Ninja Gaiden is still recognized as one of the greatest action experiences in Videogame history, especially Ninja Gaiden Black on the first Xbox. The series went into a long hiatus after the release of Ninja Gaiden 3 on the Xbox 360 and PS 3 which was well over a decade ago, but with the recent announcement of Ninja Gaiden 4 during the Xbox Deverloper Direct, the venerable series is finally making a fitting comeback on the current-gen.

And judging by the newly unveiled gameplay trailer, the upcoming title is looking to bring every bit of the slick and stylized brand of lightning-fast action that’s a staple of the iconic series. Check it out for yourself.

Revealed as the previously mentioned ‘Surprise title’ at the Xbox Developer Direct event of this year, Ninja Gaiden 4 is slated to release during Fall 2025 for the Xbox Series X|S, Playstation 5 and the PC platform. It’s certainly a great news that the game is releasing on the PC at the same time with the consoles, which is a first in the series so far. Ninja Gaiden 4 will also be available from day one on Xbox Game Pass.

Also, the game is created in collaboration between Team Ninja and Platinum Games, both being two of the most veteran developers in the Hack-n-Slash genre with several groundbreaking titles in their belts. For example, Platinum Games are the makers of the Bayonetta series as well as Nier: Automata which is another gem in the Character Action genre and Team Ninja is the developer behind all the earlier Ninja Gaiden games. Both of these powerhouses working together to craft Ninja Gaiden 4 sounds highly promising and exciting for the upcoming title.

Set after the events of Ninja Gaiden 3, the upcoming game will feature a new protagonist named Yakumo alongside the Legendary Ryu Hayabusa, the protagonist of all the earlier titles in the series. Yakumo is a much younger Ninja who seems to be at odds with Hayabusa, as revealed from the gameplay trailer. We also see a clash between both of them and though it’s too early to say, but personally I think the plot will be a bit similar to what Devil May Cry 4 did with it’s two protagonists, but of course we’ll have to wait and see.
