In a recent interview with IGN Japan held in January 3, Junya Ishizaki explained that the next game in the Elden Ring series wouldn’t include the messaging feature. Ishizaki further explained that the coming Elden Ring Nightreign wouldn’t need such a feature because players would be too occupied to mess around with written note.
Elden Ring Nightreign is supposedly slated for release in 2025, unless delayed by FromSofware. However in the cause of its years of development, Elden Ring Nightreign has lost a few features that were seen in past Elden Ring titles. That said, there has also been noteworthy inclusions in the game with one being the return of a stronger version of the bloodstain mechanic which allows players to see how their comrades died and even allow them loot their ghosts.
Notably, there have been some controversial dismissals from Elden Ring Nightreign with the most recent being the removal of the game’s messaging feature which has been the growing trend for soulsborne games. The messaging feature has been featured in past Elden Ring games as it aligns well with a multiplayer-focused series. On that note, one could conclude that the messaging feature has always been a successful means to drive even more user engagement to the game by offering an asynchronous communication among players when teaming up, which is correct.
In the recent interview with IGN Japan, shizaki suggested that players just wouldn’t have enough time to chat with others when playing Elden Ring Nightreign as it would offer an even more intense experience than your traditional Elden Ring games that chatting wouldnt be a thing. This is logically true considering the fact that Elden Ring Nightreign would offer roughly about 40 minutes per piece, as anticipated by FromSoftware, compared to hours per gameplay session for past Elden Ring titles, suggesting Nightreign would be more intense. On that note, players wouldn’t have the space to mess around messaging other players, as Ishizaki suggested.
While most players may not fully understand the reason behind the dismissal of the popular messaging feature from Elden Ring Nightreign, with the release drawing closer, players can expect a thrilling experience from the game as the developers strive to tend to various scenarios, posssible issues, and glitches that may arise after launch.
