Capcom looking to lower Monster Hutner Wilds’ GPU Requirements

The upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds, which is set to release on February 28, is looking pretty beastly when it comes to it’s system requirements which goes to show that you need nothing short of a seriously high-end Gaming PC in order to run the game at reasonable visual quality levels. But recently developer Capcom has confirmed that they’re currently aiming to lower the game’s alarmingly high GPU requirements which will enable far more players to actually run and enjoy the game with decent graphical settings.

They’ve also indicated the possibility of releasing a standalone Benchmarking tool on the PC which will no doubt help most gamers gauge their Gaming PC against Monster Hunter Wilds and whether they need any upgrade or not.

As of now, the upcoming Action RPG requires an Nvidia GTX 1660 Super or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT as absolute minimum for getting 30 FPS at 1080p resolution, while using upscaling like DLSS or FSR for it’s ‘lowest’ visual quality settings. To make it clear, a 1660 Super, which was more than a capable GPU for 1080p just a year back can’t run Monster Hunter Wilds even at the lowest settings without DLSS.

And as for the ‘recommended’ settings which aims for 60 FPS at 1080p (with both upscaling and Frame Generation), the game needs at least an RTX 2070 Super, RTX 4060, or AMD RX 6700 XT. Also when a game needs frame-gen to achieve a steady 60 FPS, it generally results in a much lower responsive-ness due to latency which comes with any form of frame generation. It’s important to note that Frame-gen is generally reserved for only the high-end of GPUs due to the massive VRAM requirements of the technology.

But these requirements certainly make Monster Hunter Wilds as yet another abysmally demanding game to run, which can seriously get in the way of it’s sales projections. And perhaps that’s the incentive for the devs to make the upcoming title more scalable for a wider range of Graphics Cards.

Monster Hunter Wilds is set to arrive for the Playstation 5, Xbox Series X|S and the PC platform on February 28.
