PlayStation 5 Pro Revealed; Releases in November for $700

After months of speculation Sony officially announced the industries worst kept secret, PlayStation 5 Pro.

The upcoming upgrade boasts a couple key changes that will significantly improve the player experience. Leading the changes is AI-Driven Upscaling. This feature introduces “PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution,” which hopes to offer improve image clarity. The GPU was also upgraded to offer 67 percent more Compute Units than PlayStation 5, and 28 percent faster memory. Sony claims this results in approximately 45 percent faster rendering gameplay. Advanced Ray Tracing should offer a more dynamic experience, with the potential to double, or at times triple, the speed of PlayStation 5.

We developed PS5 Pro with deeply engaged players and game creators in mind – as many have asked for a console that runs even higher fidelity graphics with smoother frame rates at 60FPS. We achieved this on PS5 Pro with several key performance features.

AI-Driven Upscaling: We’re also introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.

Upgraded GPU: With PS5 Pro, we are upgrading to a GPU that has 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. Overall, this enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.

Advanced Ray Tracing: We’ve added even more powerful ray tracing that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.

Another highlighted feature is PS5 Pro Game Boost. This should improve the performance of PlayStation 4 games running on PlayStation 5, along with better visual clarity, plus the potential for a resolution boost as well.

Sony also confirmed PlayStation 5 Pro will offer Wi-Fi 7, with VRR and 8K gaming being supported.

Preorders for PlayStation 5 Pro will open Sept. 26, with the release currently set for Nov. 7. PlayStation 5 Pro comes with a 2TB SSD installed, DualSense controller, plus a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed for $699.99 USD, £699.99, €799.99, and ¥119,980. Sony also confirmed this model does not have a disc drive, though one can be purchased separately.

  1. They should be embarrassed. I couldn’t care less about the slight graphical upgrades. No built-in disc drive, no sale.
