After 33 years industry legend Game Informer is closing down. The unexpected news was revealed via a site update, and through their social media pages.
The Final Level: Farewell
from Game InformerAfter 33 thrilling years of bringing you the latest news, reviews, and insights from the ever-evolving world of gaming, it is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Game Informer.
From the early days of pixelated adventures to today’s immersive virtual realms, we’ve been honored to share this incredible journey with you, our loyal readers. While our presses may stop, the passion for gaming that we’ve cultivated together will continue to live on.
Thank you for being part of our epic quest, and may your own gaming adventures never end.
As a result, this means issue 367, which features Dragon Age: The Veilguard on the cover, will be the magazine’s last.
Following the unexpected reveal, former-Game Informer Content Director, Kyle Hilliard, offered the following comment.
Game Informer has been closed down by GameStop and the entire, incredibly talented staff (including myself) have all been laid off. A frustrating turn of events (especially considering we were about 70% done with the next issue and it was going to have a GREAT cover).
Former-Game Informer Video Editor, Ben Hanson expressed frustration at the situation. As did Editor, Elise Favis, commented on the sadness they felt at the news.
In response a wide variety of communities expressed their thoughts on the situation. These ranged from Metacritic thanking them for over 7,500 reviews, to users reminiscing about their memories of simpler times and the joy the magazine brought to their lives.
