Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is fast approaching its first season, which has been infamously marked as Joker’s sign on date with Amanda Waller’s eccentric Task Force X. Keep in mind that despite Rocksteady’s cooperative anti-hero looter shooter taking place in the established Arkhamverse, the playable Joker arriving next week is an Elseworld variant and not Mark Hamill’s long-deceased iconic iteration.
The Joker’s arrival will also be accompanied by new weapons, gear and cosmetics inspired by notable DC villains — Scarecrow, Mad Hatter, Merlyn, Dr. Psycho, Reverse-Flash and Black Manta are among those mentioned — as well as the game’s first battle pass. As is the norm, the battle pass will consist of free and premium rewards. Those that sprung for the pricier deluxe edition will already have a battle pass token in-hand, should they decide to use it on the Joker-themed season.
Additionally, new Incursions and Strongholds will join the existing content, giving those already embedded in the endgame something new to chew on for a bit. Metropolis will also be getting an Elseworld makeover in the image of the Clown Prince of Crime. However, the full suite of new season one content will be split across two episodes: Fear and Duality. Fear will kick things off on March 28th, with Duality cropping up as a mid-season refresh.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League hasn’t found stable footing post-launch and it’s hard to say if the season one offerings will be enough to entice players to come back to Rocksteady’s divisive live service game. Steam’s metrics paint a depressing picture, with Task Force X managing around 550 players on average each day over the past month. Obviously, this doesn’t account for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S players, but it isn’t a far reach to assume the situation may look similar on those platforms.
With four seasons in total planned, we will be watching to see how Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League adjusts should the inaugural season fail to result in the desired resurgence. For now, feel free to check out the new trailer.
