People Speculate Apple’s Upcoming Scary Fast Event Will Focus on Gaming

Over the years there has been a fair amount of speculation that Apple will enter the gaming space. Some of these are vague assumptions, like Vision Pro would redefine VR gaming, to rumors of Apple potentially purchasing Electronic Arts.

Most of these rumors have fallen short, though Apple has slowly made progress in this space. These include the upcoming Resident Evil 4 remake and Death Stranding Director’s Cut ports, making a point to showcase how powerful iPhone 15 Pro is, and much more. However, there are some reasons to believe the upcoming Scary Fast event will be more than meets the eye.

While many believe it will refresh Apple’s iMac line, which is about two years old and still running M1, X (Twitter) user VNChocoTaco shared an image they supposedly found on Chinese microblog site, Weibo.

It shows a different wallpaper for their MacBook Pro, creating speculation on a potential new model. Several have questioned if Apple is already rolling out M3, a move that would be faster than their time between M1 and M2, though it could be a something else entirely. This would fall in line with Apple’s surprising move to include Game Mode with MacOS Sonoma about a month ago.

In addition to this, MacRumors has heard rumors they can’t confirm that a major Japanese developer will be tied into this event. This isn’t impossible to fathom, given Hideo Kojima was recently at WWDC. No details were given on who this might be, though this detail would help explain Apple’s unusual event timing.

Typically these events occur in early in the day. This allows Apple to basically dominate the news cycle with surprising reveals. Placing it at 5 pm PST / 8 PM EST would line up with 9 am JST.

It might also explain why Apple announced a price increase for their services earlier today. Many flocked to Apple TV+, which is going from $6.99 to $9.99, though it Also applies to Apple Arcade. Going forward it will cost $6.99 a month for this service. It’s unlikely we will see a big increase given the still low cost of entry, it’s an interesting concept to consider.
