King of Puppets is one of the first real test of skill in Lies of P. It’s fast, hits a wide range, not to mention a lot of things can go wrong. It’s one fight that forced me to devise a new tactic, which means others will likely be in a similar situation. So let’s talk about how to defeat the King of Puppets.
For this fight I strongly suggest Patience Amulet, Puppet Destroyer’s Amulet, Arch Heavyweight Frame, Belford Superior Corrosion Resistance Converter, Belford Shock Cartridge, and Belford Spaced Armor Liner. This is the upgraded form that can be unlocked by finishing the area below King of Puppets.
This just leaves weapon and Legion Arm, which are the most important aspects to this build. For weapon you want Bone-Cutting Sawblade and Fire Axe Handle. If you haven’t followed our other guides the Fire Axe Handle is located at the end of the rolling balls of flame section in chapter three. As for Bone-Cutting Sawblade, it’s found in chapter five after the woman with a bottle. In the area where you fight the massive monster and the one symbol is on fire in-front of a barn, you’ll find some women who throw corrosive globs at you. Head up there and at the end of the path you’ll find the weapon.
For Legion Arm you’ll want Aegis, which you need to purchase if you haven’t already. Another imperative thing is getting it upgraded to level two. This allows you to attack while your shield is up, which is a huge cheese for this fight.
Finally, add Electric Blitz Grindstone to your Grinder. This isn’t overly important, though it is really helpful to have. It also helps to have Throwing Cell and Venigni’s Urgent Repair Tool to make things simpler.
This fight starts with a fight against a giant robot known as the King of Puppets. It has a lot of range, is fairly fast, and can do a lot of damage quickly. Your goal is to start close, perfect block/dodge as many attacks as possible, and deal damage whenever possible. Most of its attacks are ranged, so being close gives you a huge edge. Keep in mind this is more so true for the latter half of the fight than the former.
My advice is to be aggressive until it gets to about 60 percent health. At this point it will instantly go into its next phase where it adds a number of new attacks. I only note this since it will attack the location directly in-front of it when it transforms. Being there will result in taking a couple easily avoided attacks.
Ideally you’ll phase it quickly, get the stun, wait for an opening, slash once for heavy and then Fatal Attack to basically kill him. However, before killing it you’ll want to sharpen your weapon. I was almost always critical going into the second phase and it simply is the best time to do it.
Unlike the base fight, Romeo is extremely fast with devastating combos. For this reason immediately use the Electric Blitz Grindstone. There is enough time between his first attack and finishing to make it completely safe. Once you have lightning, deploy the shield and start attacking.
If things go according to plan, a couple hits in will stun him and allow you to drop the shield for more damage. Keep this up until either an opening happens for a Fatal Attack, or shield is gone. After this you’ll likely only need to get a handful of attacks to finish him off. Anyone worried about winning can be cheesy and throw items to finish him off, or just keep your distance attacking only when an opening appears.
