We all knew it was coming, thanks to a Monster energy drink promotion leak recently, but Activision has decided now is the time to confirm the existence of Modern Warfare 3 (stylized Modern Warfare III). Unlike the previous two entries of the Modern Warfare reboot, the third installment is being helmed by Sledgehammer Studios with Infinity Ward taking a backseat. Sledgehammer’s last Call of Duty title was the divisive WW2-era Vanguard. Having Sledgehammer take the steering wheel to navigate the end of the reboot trilogy may seem like a big risk, but Infinity Ward has been in the passenger seat the whole time to ensure the game doesn’t veer off the road (or so we hope).
The official reveal of Modern Warfare 3 came via a teaser trailer that cements November 10th as the launch day for the annual shooter’s latest entry. The description further teases “The ultimate threat awaits,” with the audio in the trailer itself coming from Captain Price and the not-so-dead Shadow Company leader Phillip Graves.
Between the teaser and the recently-ended storyline in Modern Warfare 2‘s raids, it looks like we will be squaring off with Makarov once again, just as we did in the 2011 original. The real question is, will Soap survive this time? We’ll have to wait to find out.
Keep an eye out for more Modern Warfare 3 news as we head toward the full reveal in the very near future, which is expected to take place inside Warzone 2.0.
