Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty starts off fast by moving from mindless grunts to a boss relatively quickly. Unfortunately, this can make the fight especially difficult, as you might not know the mechanics, tricks, have options, or any number of other things. These are the elements that make Zhang Liang difficult, though there are also some tricks to make him a lot easier.

How to Defeat Zhang Liang in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

Set Up

While this is the initial section of Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, there are some tricks to make it a lot easier. There should be a chest by the tiger boss towards the middle of the level, which contains powerful gear. Absorb Vitality from the Wood Phase spells section is extremely useful if used at the right time.

It also helps to gain a higher morale rank. Zhang Liang is level 10, you can get level 16 or so with little effort, which is a huge advantage against this boss.

Zhang Liang Phase One

Surprisingly, this phase can be completed with relative ease by being aggressive. A weapon like Ring Pommel Sabre will swing faster than him, and creates a soft stun lock. The rotation should be a couple normal swings, followed by a powerful swing when he starts blocking. This will make it so the only attack he can hit you with critical blows. When you see him start to do it, just deflect to punish.

Zhang Liang Phase Two

Unlike the first phase, there is no cheap exploit to make the second phase easy. It is really all about deflecting attacks, so it helps a lot to take a passive approach.

Instead of trying to squeeze out as much damage as possible, try to be mid-range and wait for his grab critical blow. When deflected, it will destroy his arm, vastly reduce his spirit gauge, making it easier to do a powerful attack on him. These are extremely important, as it’s the best way to get damage. If you notice things going south, use Absorb Vitality. Getting the critical hit with that active should give an substantial amount of health back, allowing you to save pots for when you need them.

This is basically the rotation you want to see, as it minimizes your risk while maximizing damage. After three to four rotations Zhang Liang will die ending the tutorial stage.
