New World makes some bold decision choices in its MMO framework. One such decision is the complete absence of mounts, leaving players to leisurely stroll between markers on the vast map of Aeternum. For this reason, the ability to fast travel becomes invaluable rather quickly when venturing between previously explored zones.
In the early hours of Amazon Games’ MMO, the trek to new zones can carry excitement as the areas are explored for the very first time. But when you are on the hundredth town quest, casually traversing the all-too-familiar dirt roadways once again, the mystery that once combatted the tedium is long gone. That is why many players opt to fast travel around the map in the later hours to optimize their quest loop.
Here’s how you, too, can teleport around the Aeternum’s expansive map.
Fast traveling in New World carries requirements of which you need to be aware. First, fast traveling to a given location — settlement, outpost or spirit shrine — requires that the player has already discovered the site. That means the initial trip to a new area will always be a manual, on-foot excursion. Once an area has been discovered, it can be traveled to.
To travel to one of the previously uncovered locales, players must be in a settlement or a spirit shrine. Standard fast traveling around the map cannot be done while out in the wilds. Furthermore, the action requires Azoth, a rare resource.
Now, there are a couple exceptions to the Azoth cost and fast traveling location activation conditions. Checking in at a settlement’s inn will mark that particular in as a home base of sorts. Players can use the Recall to Inn function to travel back to the marked inn from anywhere on the map at zero cost. The only catch is that the ability has a one-hour cooldown.
For those that amassed enough coin to buy a house, player homes carry the same function as inns. Fast traveling to an owned house is free and the cooldown is dependent on the home’s tier. Owning multiple houses will allow multiple free travel options since the cooldown is not shared across properties.
There you have it. You are now better prepared to move about the island and minimize time traveling the old-fashioned way.
