Games to Look Forward to in August 2021

With the holiday season fast approaching, we’re starting to see a number of big titles released. While Aug. 2021 is not the most jam-packed month, even this year, it does contain a little something for everyone.

Here are the games to look forward to in August 2021:

Hades

Last year there were a few standout titles, with one of the biggest being Hades. The unexpected indie blew players away, earning multiple Game of the Year awards and introduced a lot of players to the roguelike genre. So far Hades has been limited to PC and Switch, but in Aug. 2021, it comes to PlayStation and Xbox. There is no telling if it will find the same level of success but at least more players can see what so many people were talking about.

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut / Iki Island expansion

Another big hit in 2020 was Ghost of Tsushima. Sucker Punch knocked it out of the park with this samurai film-turned game. With PlayStation 5 finally in, some lucky players’ hands, it seems fitting that the first expansion will also come with a host of improvements. While Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut is not a free upgrade, it can be upgraded for a small fee.

As for the expansion, either version can enjoy that, unlike Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade’s Yuffie DLC, bringing the adventure to Iki Island. This comes with a whole host of improvements and looks to be among the most exciting expansions releasing this year.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite

While Cold Iron Studios is a new developer, there are people who worked on popular games like Star Trek Online. Due to this, we know they can handle the pressure of developing a large concept title based on a beloved franchise and do it relatively well.

As for Aliens: Fireteam Elite itself, it’s something of a survival game like Left 4 Dead or Earthfall, where players work together to survive against an overwhelming threat. Initial impressions seem favorable and while it might not change the face of gaming or even the genre for that matter, it looks to be a solid experience with friends to get together and enjoy.

No More Heroes III

Finally, after years of waiting, No More Heroes III closes out the month. Everything about this upcoming title suggests it plans on doubling down on what players enjoyed with the franchise, in a new, even crazier concept. And, best of all, this is one franchise where jumping the shark is really just par for the course.
