It seems GTA 6 is not the only major release from Rockstar Games this year as their 2018 Open World Odyssey Red Dead Redemption 2 may also see a current-gen remaster this year which will allow the game to take full advantage of the PS5, PS5 Pro and the Xbox Series X|S and will result in the game looking and running even better on those consoles.
It was confirmed last year that a visual upgrade for Red Dead Redemption 2 is in the works and could release in 2025 but now according to trusted leaker Nate the Hate, the new-gen version of the seminal title is gearing up for a release this year.
Nate the Hate wrote in his X/Twitter account: “As far as I know, RDR2 is this year.”
The next-gen update could be the usual higher-res textures and selected use of Ray Tracing such as Ray Traced Shadows and Reflections in Red Dead 2, which is already one of the greatest looking games of all time even without using any RT based tech. It’d be interesting to see how Rockstar decides to implement RT in the game as using Ray Traced Global Illumination could interfere with several artistic directions behind the lighting of the game as seen in lots of titles before.
The first Red Dead Redemption have received a 4K/60 FPS upgrade on the current-gen consoles which clearly raises the anticipation for a similar technical upgrade for RDR 2 as well and according to the reliable leaker, it sure is on it’s way and could be shadowdropped this year, similar to what Bethesda did with the Oblivion Remaster last year.
This also highlights one of the biggest qualities of the majority of Rockstar Games which is that they are timeless experiences in many ways that are worth revisiting many times over, especially with a technical overhaul.
