Former Toys for Bob Artist’s Portfolio Points Toward the Return of Spyro

Former Toys for Bob Artist’s Portfolio Points Toward the Return of Spyro

Evidence for a new Spyro the Dragon game has come to light through the professional background of a former Toys for Bob developer. This suggests that the purple dragon’s break may finally be coming to an end. The information comes from the LinkedIn profile of Donald Yatomi, a seasoned concept artist who worked as a senior staff member at the studio from 2022 to 2024. On his public page, Yatomi specifically listed the Spyro franchise alongside Call of Duty as his main projects during his two years there. This detail has sparked speculation about a potential fourth main installment.

This discovery is significant due to Yatomi’s experience in the industry. Before joining Toys for Bob, he spent over a decade at Sony’s Bend Studio, where he was the art director for Days Gone. His skills are in environment and character design, which are critical for creating the whimsical and expansive worlds that the Spyro series is known for. Although Yatomi was part of the layoffs that affected the studio in early 2024, the timing of his employment suggests that pre-production or active development on a Spyro project likely started before the studio became independent.

The wider context of Toys for Bob’s current situation supports these claims. After separating from Activision Blizzard following Microsoft’s acquisition, the studio entered into a formal publishing deal with Xbox Game Studios in May 2024. While the team has kept quiet about their first project as an independent partner, the studio’s history—which includes the successful Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time—makes a return to the platforming genre the most logical choice for their next move.

Although Activision and Microsoft have not made a formal statement, the industry is looking toward an anticipated Xbox Developer Direct in early 2026 as a potential opportunity for an official announcement. For fans who have waited over six years since the Reignited Trilogy showed that the character is still popular, Yatomi’s credits serve as the strongest evidence yet that the “Roast Master” is indeed returning.
