It seems a new Dragon Ball title is on it’s way and is set to be announced in January as part of the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event, as posted on X/ Twitter by the official Dragon Ball Games account. However, any details on the upcoming game such as it’s title, genre, platforms or developers are yet to be revealed which has given rise to plenty of fan speculations and theories as to what the upcoming Dragon Ball game might be.
As Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero came out in 2024, the new game in the franchise could be another action-RPG hybrid like Xenoverse 3 or even a Kakarot-like game. The new game could also be in line with some of the earlier titles like Dragon Ball: Raging Blast or even Budokai, however a mobile release is also expected at this point. A Dragon ball game like the 2.5D Shin Budokai series would be pretty awesome as there was a certain depth and fun to those combat systems that a lot of the newer titles failed to even come close to.
Though it can be said that Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero still has some amount of Life left in it as the game just got it’s latest character pack based on the Daima anime last month along with a recent teaser that hints at one more character to be added in it’s massive roster that will make it’s way in January next year. So it makes sense that the upcoming game will possibly be of a much different flavor in terms of gameplay, which only strengthens the possibility of Xenoverse 3.
It seems the Dragon Ball franchise aims to release games in regular intervals of 2 to 3 years across different genres like full blown RPG variant Kakarot, action-RPG hybrid Xenoverse series and pure action titles like Sparking Zero and it’d be interesting to see a new entry in the lineup.
