2K Games has announced the server shutdown date for their wrestling game, WWE 2K25. Online services for the game will end on March 14, 2027, exactly two years after the game’s launch. This decision, while common in the industry, gives players a clear end date for their online experience, which is an important part of modern gaming.
Shutting down online support for older games is a well-accepted practice. This decision is influenced by factors such as high server maintenance costs and the end of licensing agreements. For a game that cost $70, a two-year period might seem short to some players, especially those who invested heavily in its online modes like the popular Community Creations feature. However, this timeframe is a slight improvement over recent games. Previous titles like WWE 2K23 and WWE 2K24 were set to be retired about 22 months after their release dates.
This news is especially significant for players who bought WWE 2K25 on the Switch 2 since their experience was already limited. The game launched on that platform in late July 2025, over four months after it was available on other consoles. This delay, along with missing key features like the image uploader and a full Community Creations suite, means Switch 2 players get less value for their purchase.
The retirement of WWE 2K25 is part of a larger trend at 2K Games. The publisher will also end online services for PGA Tour 2K23 on February 28, 2027, among other games. While this news marks the end for the current wrestling title, it also shows the publisher’s focus on future games in the long-running series. For dedicated players, the next two years will be the last chance to fully enjoy the online world of WWE 2K25 before it goes offline.
