The sequel to 2019’s mind bending action adventure Death Stranding, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach has reached an impressive sales milestone since it came out on June 26 as the game is confirmed to have sold 1.4 million units in June alone. Considering it’s been out for less than two weeks so far, those numbers are expected to grow a lot more in the coming days and months. As reported by Wccftech, Hideo Kojima’s latest videogame has managed to sold 1.4 million copies by the end of June and while the game hasn’t performed as strongly as it’s predecessor in terms of physical copies sold across Europe, it’s digital sales have been significantly higher this time around.
Christopher Dring of The Game Business has posted regarding Death Stranding 2’s sales performance with detailed comparisons to it’s predecessor:“Death Stranding 2 was No.1 in the UK physical charts last week. Its launch sales were 66% lower than Death Stranding 1… but different eras.” Dring explained, “It’s a far more digital market today. It’s 33% lower than Astro Bot’s launch, but that was also a physical-heavy release, too.”
It’s important to remember that the first Death Stranding had continued to sell well even years after it’s launch and so Death Stranding 2 is also expected to do similar considering it’s an even better game overall, so it’s likely that it will be a long-term success just like it’s predecessor.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach got mostly wide acclaim after release, garnering perfect scores from multiple sites like IGN, Push Squire, The Guardian and more. The game is highly praised for it’s sophisticated and cinematic storytelling, much improved stealth and combat mechanics over it’s predecessor which makes the gameplay experience way more satisfying and enjoyable and a whole lot of quality of life additions and improvements that turn the game into a more accessible and accomplished experience in every way. If you have a Playstation 5, it’s definitely one of the best titles you can play this year.
