If you have wondered how the recently released Nintendo Switch 2 stacks up to the Xbox and the Playstation systems of both past and present from a purely computational perspective, the answer from one of the devs might surprise you. According to Takuto Edagawa, producer of Koei Tecmo’s Wild Hearts S, has said that the Switch 2 is actually closer to the Xbox Series S than the PS4, in terms of raw computing power. In a recent interview with wccftech, he stated:

“There are a lot of characteristics when it comes to raw computing power so it’s difficult to generalize, but I think it can be thought as closer to the Series S.”

Of course, coming from someone who is working on developing games for the new console which means who knows the system from the inside out, the statement carries a great amount of weight. And it does make a lot of sense considering the Switch 2 can display all games at full 1080p resolution with 120 FPS which certainly indicate a whole lot of processing power especially as it’s a handheld system.

Switch 2 also includes a custom NVIDIA GPU with dedicated RT cores and Tensor cores which clearly shows it’s quite a powerhouse capable of serious number crunching performance out of the box. The handheld console also has NVIDIA DLSS support which enables the Switch 2 to offer up to 4K resolution while keeping game sizes much smaller.

Also, The Nintendo Switch 2, which came out on June 5, has already sold over 3.5 million units so far, becoming the fastest selling hardware in the history of Nintendo. The company had shared news of the massive success of Switch 2 in their official Twitter/X account, stating “#NintendoSwitch2 has sold over 3.5 million units worldwide in its first four days, becoming the fastest-selling Nintendo hardware ever globally.”

In comparison, the first Nintendo Switch had sold 2.7 million units around the first month of the console’s release.
