Path Games, a Spanish independent game developer, has announced Dark Mass, a new psychological horror game that takes place underwater. The title has been scheduled to be released in Fall 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

A Sinister Submarine World

Dark Mass follows Alice, a sub-marine explorer who finds a submerged manor after an earthquake. Walled up within, she has to explore its spooky corridors and disentangle time-worn rituals to escape. The first-person gameplay and completely underwater world of the game are designed to provide an overwhelming, crushing horror experience unlike any other.

Path Games, a Barcelona-based studio, has already released Insomnis (2022), a horror game with a cult following for psychological horror. Dark Mass, however, brings the studio into the darker, more immersive territory, real-world historical techniques of torture being used to assist in creating its unsettling atmosphere.

A Peek into Dark Mass’ Creepy World

The reveal trailer has hints of sea monsters, eerie lighting, and ghastly rituals. The monsters in Dark Mass are purely fictitious, but the game draws inspiration from real-world cruelty, and this gives the horrors an aura of realism.

Unlike most of the short psychological horror games, Dark Mass is presenting a 4–6 hour campaign with replay value. Players will be making decisions that influence the outcome of the game, maybe through a walkie-talkie system for interacting with Alice’s brother, Reed. Such systems add depth and tension, where players must choose their fate as they go through the underwater hell.

A Promising Horror Experience for Deep-Sea Horror Fans

With its eerie mood, mind horror, and imaginative underwater atmosphere, Dark Mass may thrive among deep-sea horror fans and interactive fright advocates. Path Games’ dedication to story-driven experiences and choice-based game mechanics leads one to believe that Dark Mass may be an indie horror force.

Though the actual release date hangs in the balance awaiting an official announcement, horror fans will need to anticipate Dark Mass’s release during Fall 2026.
