Monster Hunter Wilds sells 8 million copies in the span of 3 days, this is a big win for the popular Capcom series. However, even with this new record being broken, people can’t help but feel that the game is very different. It is very common to see many old franchises nowadays being reformed and remade to appeal to new audiences. Doing this, the quality of the games often decreases due to severe changes happening to fit a group of people who never played the originals. We at Infinite Start will cover more info about this popular series.

Monstrous sales numbers

Back in the day, online games weren’t that popular in the 2000s era. This was due to them being mostly subscription based and not many people having good internet connections. MMOs were a hobby for the few fortunate people who had enough spare cash to spend on it. Monster Hunter was born on the PS2, as one of the few online titles the platform had, and it was met with positive reception. Not only did the game release in Japan, but it surprisingly came overseas too.

This series used to be about slow and methodical hunting of different creatures, many of them being way quicker and reactive than you. The game rewarded players who took the hunting process slowly, and it was truly a game of attrition. Being Multiplayer games primarily with the possibility to play Solo mode, Monster Hunter was all about the grind. The game is tough, but its very fun to try and master it. However, Monster Hunter Wilds decides to simplify the experience by removing many systems with the excuse of it being “quality of life”. Turning a hard series into an easy and quick game kinda removes the tension of the hunt.

New Monster Hunter titles feel as if you were the monster all along. Adding chain combos and other power ups makes it feel like its not about taking it slow anymore, but turning it into a DPS race. Along with the myriads of issues that the PC version has, it seems that the series has lost its touch with the original fan base.
