PC gaming had a rough start, always being the underdog below the more popular and accessible consoles for a long time. However, with the passing of time, it seems that things have turned out quite differently than what some expected. Here at Infinite Start will document the current outlook of gaming in 2025.
High prices, lots of trouble
From the start of the medium, consoles and microcomputers have always been the most accessible gadgets to consumers who wanted to experience the scene. Thanks to their usually cheap prices, it was a no brainier to acquire one of these to enjoy some good times between family and friends.
In the late 90s however, PC gaming was starting to become a bit more developed, bringing more powerful hardware to the table that was able to compete against home consoles. However, thanks to the dominance of Japanese console manufacturers such as Nintendo and Sony, it was hard to crack into the market quite yet.
In today’s era, the biggest problem going on right now is price and accessibility. Thanks to years of development on the PC scene, we’ve reached a point where we can run highly complex software applications, including games. A PC also makes your money feel more worth it, thanks to the slew of customization options available that are expensive yet last for longer.
Meanwhile in the consoles side, we have been having a severe overpricing problem for years, along with many other issues. The PS5 is an excellent example of why it makes no sense to go for a system that is weaker than your average modern PC setup. Pair that with the fact that consoles barely have exclusives that are worth it anymore, unless you are Nintendo. You are betting in a losing horse when you decide to pay overprice on an older generation PC with barely any games.
PC Gaming to the rescue
Thanks to your ability to customize your PC to fit any sort of workload, provided you have the cash to do so, it tends to be the better choice most of the time. One can make the argument that configuring a PC might be a hassle, compared to the plug and play nature of consoles. However, with recent advancements in Operating System technology by Valve, it has never been easier to get into PC gaming. The PC library is also big, not only does it include what consoles offer, but it has more exclusives than all of them. Making it more clear that PC gaming is the way to go forward.
