After a rather tricky opening, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty keeps it coming with the mini-boss, Zhuyan. Similar to his namesake, this is a monkey-esque creature that can be pretty difficult if you approach it the wrong way. Thankfully, that also means the fight is very easy with the right tactic.
How to Defeat Zhuyan in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty
Set Up
Similar to the last fight, it helps to have high morale and explore the whole map before fighting him. If you do get stuck, there is a shortcut you can enable by an earlier checkpoint, or you can go the upper path, defeat the powerful foe, and get that checkpoint. I personally suggest doing the latter for the additional fortification, though it is not needed.
In the event you fight the powerful foe, there is a trick to somewhat cheese it. Since the fight has a number of bombers near the enemy, you’ll want to bring him to the lower area. Not only will this prevent bombers from doing damage to you, there is a brief window to damage him as he gets up from the fall. The only downside with this tactic is Zhao Yun won’t follow you, and will die before they chase after you. Once he is defeated, you can drop your banner, and resting will cause the bomb enemies to disappear permanently. You can also just opt to ignore the encounter, and just loot the chest, though it really isn’t worth the hassle.
Beyond this, the fight shouldn’t require any deep tactics besides deflecting, and striking.
Defeating Zhuyan
It’s actually a lot easier to defeat Zhuyan without Zhao Yun. He will take attention off of you, which will sometimes result in it targeting the wrong enemy for critical hits. I bring this up, since Zhao Yun will likely die and you’re best off ignoring him.
As for Zhuyan, it’s best to keep your distance and wait for critical hits. This is a large boss, with an equally large shockwave, so waiting for these attacks will save you a lot of easily preventable damage. Once you get the timing down, just wait, deflect, and keep going until he dies.
