In rather exciting news, Sega revealed a bunch of new things features Sonic the Hedgehog, including a new game and ports.
While it was revealed last during Sega’s Sonic Central presentation, a new Sonic game has officially been confirmed. Very few details were shown, you can find the teaser above, though Sega has confirmed it will release in 2022 for PS4/5, Xbox One/Series, Switch and PC.
Along with confirmation of a new title, the previously rumored Sonic Colors Ultimate was finally revealed for PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC and will release on Sept. 7, 2021. The new version will feature enhanced graphics, performance, new modes, plus additional features.
The base game will run you $39.99, with the physical version giving a “baby Sonic” keychain and digital including exclusive icons and “Sonic Movie Boost – Harness all the power of Sonic from the hit Paramount Pictures movie and gain an exclusive electric boost and aura.” Those looking for a bit more can step up to the digital deluxe edition for $44.99. In addition to early access, allowing players to access it on Sept. 3, 2021 at 6:00 a.m. PT / 9:00 a.m. ET, it also includes the aforementioned icons, along with a cosmetic and music pack.
Finally, Sega revealed Sonic Origins for “the latest platforms.” As the name suggests, it includes Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD. While no release date was given and they will have new features, the most interesting part is the inclusion of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles. It has been a while since Sega ported that title and will sure to make a lot of fans very happy.
