It was recently claimed by Tom Warren of The Verge that pre-orders for the upcoming GTA 6 are heavily “skewed” toward the Playstation 5 over both Xbox Series X|S consoles, which could indicate alarm signals for the Microsoft platform in many ways. However, Xbox CSO Matthew Ball has promptly responded to the claim and has affirmed that they are “very happy” with GTA 6 preorders, which, according to the company’s internal data, are matching their share of the overall console market.
“Tom, we are very happy with GTA VI pre-orders. The title is breaking records for XBOX, we expect even more records will be broken throughout the fall, and our internal analysis shows our share of pre-orders to be matching our share of the console market.”
However, Microsoft hasn’t officially announced a number for total sales regarding both Xbox Series X|S for several years, whereas rival platform Sony does that in regular intervals. And as of June 30 this year, the PS5 had sold more than 95 million units which is phenomenal and according to industry analysts, both Xbox Series consoles together is being outsold by the PS5 by at least a factor of 2:1. And if we take that ratio into account, there could be around twice the number of GTA 6 pre-orders for the PS5s than on both Xbox systems.
Sony had also boldly claimed previously that GTA 6 is going to play the best on the PS5, stating: “Thanks to the close partnership between Sony Interactive Entertainment and Rockstar Games, Grand Theft Auto VI will play best on PS5 by taking advantage of PS5’s immersive features to deliver a deeply engaging single-player experience when it launches on November 19.”
The company also touted that GTA 6 will have near-instant load times on the PS5, thanks to the console’s ultra-fast SSD: “Grand Theft Auto VI also leverages the PS5’s ultra-high speed SSD, enabling you to experience the expansive world of Leonida with near-instant load times.”
However, it doesn’t mean that players on the Xbox platform will have an inferior experience in any way as Rockstar will definitely make sure that players on both platforms will experience a similar and consistent level of performance in the open world behemoth when it comes out this November.
