Epic is getting sued by a Dutch Customer group for causing harm to minors thanks to their monetization tactics. Alas, Epic is trying to defend themselves by saying that the customer is stupid, like companies always do, but we all know that these games are made to exploit psychological triggers to get people into spending and gambling their money away in digital air that does not exist. Back in the day, a quarter gave me the opportunity to play in an arcade and have fun, even if I got beat up, there was nothing that forced me to come back to it constantly if I didn’t like it.
Epic is getting sued again
And honestly they should be losing this case too, because their lack of respect for customers is rather insane, not to mention the company itself champions for a future filled with AI slop at every corner. Hell, we are speaking about the same company who fired a diligent guy who suffered from brain cancer. There’s no morals anymore at Epic, and I would argue that there never was morals at the company in the first place, especially when Fortnite became a thing. Alas, people keep playing without knowing.
Casuals are painfully unaware of how gaming works, and the task of people who know would be to educate them on the ills of the industry so they can make better choices. Alas, as long as companies keep lobbying against our basic rights things will keep getting worse, but that’s no reason to give up when it comes to litigation against them. If we stop holding them accountable, the issue becomes normalized, what these companies want is a future where we can only rent games. Ownership is an evil concept for them sadly, but for us its a very important one that keeps gaming afloat.
