A new clip has been released showcasing side-by-side differences from the original The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the upcoming The Witcher 3 Remastered which has seen quite a bit of surprising reactions so far, with many players of the original saying that the new version actually looks worse. The official clip showcases protagonist Geralt using a fire spell on multiple foes who’re all getting burned at the same time, and while the newly remastered version has a lot more detail on Geralt’s armor along with more realistic water, however, the reflections feel off compared to the original title where the fire is seen clearly reflected as an orange blur in the water.
Despite the Remastered version of The Witcher 3 being much better in terms of textures and overall realism, but in terms of art-direction, it’s undeniable that the scene in the original looks a whole lot richer and more aesthetically appealing, whereas the new one seem a slight bland and emptier. Also, the fog looks more realistic and blends greatly with the fire effects on display, unlike in the Remastered version where we only see the fog at a distance.
One X/Twitter user has said the following as a comment which points out just why the older version looks far better: “despite literally adding RT to the game you managed to post a pic with worse water reflections, worse fog effects, worse armor textures in some cases (the glove he keeps back towards the camera for example), the new drowner just look wetter, the old ones actually look scaly/mucky.”
But thankfully, if you don’t quite like the visuals of the upcoming remaster, you can switch back to an earlier version of the build as long as you’re playing on PC.
The Witcher 3 Remastered is a significantly overhauled version of developer CD Projekt Red’s seminal open world action RPG with tweaked combat, improved traversal and movement, revamped mount handling, enhanced monster behaviors, a skill tree revamp, armor transmog, an expanded photo mode, new finishers and much more, ensuring a huge improvement over the original in terms of moment-to-moment gameplay.
The Witcher 3 Remastered is scheduled to come out as a free upgrade for all owners of the base game on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on September 29.
