Sony deciding to stop funding Hideo Kojima’s Physint which has led the game’s development now being carried under the umbrella of Xbox, is currently the biggest news in gaming this month. And although Kojima Productions has officially confirmed that development for Physint will be moving forward in it’s original direction, as intended by Kojima, it’s currently unsure whether the game will utilize the Decima engine, which powered both Death Stranding titles and is definitely one of the most jaw dropping game engines in the industry right now, capable of crafting meticulously detailed worlds with realistic visuals and lighting.

In a recent interview with IGN, Kojima has said the game engine for Physint hasn’t been decided yet, and their new partnership with Xbox along with it’s variety of new technological support may influence the choice of engine for their next title.

“After we decided to team up with Xbox, they said they will give us a lot of technological support. When I went to visit them during the Don Mattrick days, they had so many labs and everything, and they were experimenting on so many things, like state of the art, new, really new, cutting-edge technology. I was really surprised. I was thinking, “There are so many Doc Browns from Back to the Future here!” So I want to use all this new technology. Anything that I can use, I want to use, and I’m looking forward to teaming up with Xbox, but I really haven’t decided about the engine.”

Last year’s Death Stranding 2, which was one of the best looking games of 2025 and made with Decima, easily held it’s own among all the other visually impressive titles even without using any Ray Tracing technology, which has become quite commonplace for other game engines. This goes to show the sheer visual prowess of the engine which also allows for truly cinematic looking cutscenes and integrates seamless motion capture performance by real actors.
