Speculation around the future of NetherRealm Studios has flared up once again after a playtest listing for an unannounced AAA fighting game pointed toward a long-awaited sequel to Injustice 2. The listing, posted by Good Gamer Group and originally reported by EventHubs, sought competitive fighting game players for a closed testing session in Culver City, California. While the post was quickly taken down, its timing and location have led fans to believe the project could be Injustice 3.
The playtest, held on September 14 and 15, offered participants $250 for a four-hour session to test an unreleased 2D fighting game and deliver feedback directly to developers. Applicants were required to rank in the top 25 percent of competitive titles like Street Fighter 6 and Guilty Gear Strive. Although the post never mentioned NetherRealm or Warner Bros. Games by name, Culver City happens to be home to major offices for Warner Bros. Discovery, giving weight to the theory that a new DC Comics fighting game is currently undergoing external testing.
If true, this would mark a significant moment for NetherRealm fans who have been waiting for a new entry since Injustice 2 launched in 2017. The studio historically alternated between Mortal Kombat and Injustice every two years, but broke that pattern by releasing Mortal Kombat 11 in 2019 and Mortal Kombat 1 in 2023. That extended hiatus left the superhero franchise dormant for nearly a decade, even as rumors continued to circulate regarding resume leaks and voice actor teases.
While none of these details officially confirm the existence of Injustice 3, the presence of a playable build suggests that NetherRealm’s next project is well under way. Neither Warner Bros.
