Blizzard Launches World of Warcraft: Forever Beta Ahead of November Release

Blizzard Entertainment has officially launched the closed beta for World of Warcraft: Forever, giving players immediate access to its long-rumored take on a permanent “Classic Plus” experience. Running from September 17 through October 22, 2026, the beta test requires pre-purchasing either the Skyborne Epic Pack ($59.99) or the Warcraft Forever Collection ($79.99). Active subscribers will gain full access to the base game when it officially launches on November 4, 2026, though all beta character progress will be wiped prior to the live release.

Designed as a horizontal progression model, World of Warcraft: Forever caps character leveling at level 60 without plans to cycle through historical expansions like The Burning Crusade or Wrath of the Lich King. Instead, the title retains the original vanilla storyline and core map while introducing modern features, updated talent trees, and brand-new content. Early beta testing limits character growth to level 20—later expanding to level 30—allowing participants to test class rebalances and core mechanical changes in lower-level zones.

Among the major additions featured in the beta is the Skyborne Elf, a new playable race, alongside previously unavailable race and class combinations. Players can toggle between modern retail character models and original vanilla graphics, as well as customize transmogrifications. Server structures have also been reworked into a realmless architecture, allowing players to select preferred playstyle filters for Player vs. Environment (PvE), Player vs. Player (PvP), or roleplaying (RP) without splitting the broader population across separate realms.

The structural changes extend to combat design, where extensive talent overhauls alter traditional class roles and racial traits. Shamans now feature dedicated threat-generation talents capable of supporting tanking roles, while reworked racials—such as an upgraded Touch of the Grave for Undead characters—significantly shift competitive balancing across all roles. Blizzard plans to support the platform long-term with brand-new endgame zones, raids, and classes designed specifically for the level 60 ecosystem.
