Sony Interactive Entertainment has rolled out PlayStation 5 system update version 26.06-14.00.00, introducing a new feature to the console’s Welcome Hub designed to track regional player trends. The centerpiece of the update, dubbed the “Community Activity” widget, allows users to view real-time data on popular titles within their home market. The deployment began across the United States and Canada following an August beta period, with a global rollout scheduled to continue over the coming weeks.
The new widget provides two distinct views for players looking to see what nearby users are playing. The “Trending Now” tab tracks ten multiplayer titles experiencing sudden spikes in active users, typically driven by major seasonal updates or new releases. Meanwhile, the “Top 10” tab offers a broader look at the most played games over the previous seven days within a specific geographic area. Regional charts following the initial launch showed standard staples like Fortnite, Minecraft, and Grand Theft Auto V maintaining top spots, alongside sudden surges for titles like NHL 27 and Teardown.
Beyond home screen organization, the update introduces functional tweaks to in-game communication and hardware configurations. Voice chat cards now support an on-screen speaker indicator that displays the active PlayStation Network ID of whoever is talking, complete with custom placement settings. For high-end hardware, PS5 Pro consoles will now have the “Enhance PSSR Image Quality” setting enabled by default. This change forces PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution upscaling across games built for older iterations of the tech, though players retain the option to manually toggle the setting off in system preferences.
The software patch also includes a specialized hardware toggle intended exclusively for competitive environments. Located within the advanced accessory settings, a new option allows users to completely disable the console’s Bluetooth functionality. Engaging this feature prevents wireless controller sync issues at public tournaments, though Sony cautioned everyday users against enabling it, as shutting down Bluetooth automatically disables HDMI Device Link and prevents the console from entering Rest Mode.
