Marvel’s Wolverine just came out yesterday on the Playstation 5 and players on the platform have provided a fantastic 97 rating to Insomniac’s latest superhero action adventure title, despite the overall mixed critical reception the game has gotten so far. Marvel’s Wolverine currently holds a Metascore of 77 based on 117 critic reviews which is the lowest among all modern Insomniac titles, and these are some of the review scores of the game:
- IGN – 6/10
- Tech Radar – 4/5
- GamesRadar – 3/5
- Checkpoint Gaming – 8/10
- GameSpot – 6/10
However, the highly positive score from actual players and strong word-of-mouth can definitely turn the tide for Wolverine in the long run, in more ways than one.
First spotted by Forbes, the Marvel’s Wolverine page in the PlayStation Store shows the game with a user rating of 4.84 stars with 6,400 reviews, which indicate that the overwhelming majority of players have given the game a full 5/5 stars. And when compared to the usual 100 point scale, the overall player rating translates to around 97/100 which is quite an oddity in the face of the 77/100 Metascore the game has received previously.
This also unequivocally proves that players are loving Wolverine a lot, despite the overall mixed critical reviews and ratings. Of course, most fans of the iconic X-Man won’t really hesitate to pick up the game and give it a try as despite all the lower-than-ideal ratings, this is still the most authentic Wolverine experience you can get in a videogame, in a really long time, and maybe, the only one.
However, do note that the ratings can change with time, so maybe we’ll have a clearer picture of player reception of the game several weeks later.
Marvel’s Wolverine is available in two different editions–the Standard edition of the game will cost you $69.99 while the Digital Deluxe version sports a price tag of $79.99. There’s no mention of a collector’s edition that’s geared towards enthusiasts so if you were hoping for physical collectibles like statues and maybe action figures, looks like there won’t be any of that.
