Nintendo is bringing back its latest strategy-adventure title with Pikmin 4: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy, scheduled to launch on November 12. The updated release will be available both physically and digitally, with existing Switch owners able to upgrade their current digital copy for $9.99 through the Nintendo eShop. This revised edition marks the latest effort by the company to bolster its early Switch 2 catalog using updated versions of successful first-party titles from the previous generation.
The new edition introduces expanded gameplay mechanics designed specifically around the updated Switch 2 hardware features. Players can now issue direct verbal commands and praise to Oatchi, the rescue dog introduced in the original 2023 release, by using the console’s built-in microphone. While Nintendo has not yet specified whether the enhanced hardware will deliver visual or framerate upgrades over the original release, the focus of this edition remains heavily centered on these expanded interactive elements and new structural modes.
A major addition to the package is Dandori Academy, a dedicated challenge mode structured around efficient resource management and time-based tasks. Players will navigate multi-stage puzzle scenarios designed to test their ability to direct Pikmin effectively while gathering treasure under strict time constraints. The mode will feature weekly timed exams available from Friday through Sunday, totaling 72 distinct challenges over time. Global and friends-list leaderboards will track player performances across all difficulty tiers to encourage ongoing competitive play.
This release follows a recent pattern of Nintendo leveraging its core IP library to bridge the gap between console generations. With major original entries often taking several years to develop, updated editions provide immediate content for early console adopters while keeping long-running franchises active. For series creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo, the strategy ensures that the Pikmin franchise maintains a steady presence as development continues on future projects for the platform.
