It seems now we’ll finally get to know what was supposed to happen in the third episode of Half Life 2 as a recent 12 TB Steam leak has revealed tons of files from Valve along with some third parties which date back to the time period between 2003 to 2013. Interestingly, this is also the time span where almost all of Valve’s iconic titles came out, from Half Life 2 to Portal 2 so we could be getting a lot of unreleased materials from some of these games pretty soon.
The enormous leak was spotted by @GabeFollower on X and according to an user named Scolcer, all of this data were actually kept in a public repository:
“There has been no hacking. This is 100% VALVe’s fault.
The Steam Teraleak was obtained from a site that was 100% accessible to the public. It was there for everyone to download. No passwords. Nothing. Hidden in plain sight, but with no protection whatsoever.
This is the reason it only covers from Steam’s birth up to 2013, when they switched to the new storage system.
This 13 Terabyte leak also contains a huge amount of third-party content (files/betas from other games that were on Steam before 2013), which means it’s a VERY DANGEROUS situation for everyone. Be very careful.”
While it could take quite some time to ‘unearth’ all of the leaked data from Valve, the company hasn’t confirmed the legitimacy nor any details regarding the leak. But as the files are real, it seems it’s only a matter of time before we get more info on some of the most beloved games of all time that came out from Valve, such as Portal and Half Life 2.
Half Life 2: Episode 3 has been an enigma of sorts that never came to see the light of day cause it had spent too much time in development hell, however, player interests on what was supposed to happen in it’s story and characters still continue to exist. And perhaps now we’ll finally have some real details regarding the ending chapter of one of the most influential FPS’ to ever come out of gaming.
