Wizards of the Coast has confirmed that Magic: The Gathering’s upcoming expansion, Reality Fracture, is facing significant North American supply constraints ahead of its October 2 release. Shipping complications are expected to limit initial wave availability for Play Boosters across the region, creating potential inventory shortages for local game stores and pushing secondary market prices higher for early adopters.
Slated as the final in-universe set of 2026, Reality Fracture serves as a major narrative climax centered on the Planeswalker Jace and his alternate Echoverse. The set introduces alternate-universe takes on established Magic lore, including a reimagined version of the Strixhaven setting and color-swapped printings of competitive staples like Craterhoof Behemoth, Snapcaster Mage, and Dark Confidant. A standalone Commander deck featuring a four-color iteration of Jace is also scheduled to launch alongside the main expansion.
The announcement comes during a packed release calendar for the trading card game, which has balanced traditional set releases like Lorwyn Eclipsed and Secrets of Strixhaven with high-profile Universes Beyond crossovers, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Marvel Super Heroes, and The Hobbit. Wizards of the Coast has not provided a timeline for when secondary restocks will normalize supply in North America.
Following Reality Fracture, the publisher plans to close out the year with a Star Trek collaboration featuring autographed chase cards signed by franchise actors, before transitioning into its 2027 slate. That upcoming lineup includes the aquatic-themed Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, the mechs-versus-monsters crossover Kamigawa: Titanbreach, and a Zhalfir-focused set featuring Teferi.
