Silent Hill will start churning stuff one after another, similar to what Capcom did with the famous Blue Bomber in the early 90s. For people who don’t care about quality and they just want to consume anything, this is amazing, but for people who seek quality and wants the franchise to remain cultured, I fear the worst. I’m on the latter camp, the first Silent Hill is one of my favorite games on the original PlayStation, to this day I do re-runs of it from time to time and when I feel like it. It was already teased that Bloober will be remaking (more like ruining) the first game, and hearing that hurts me.
Silent Hill might die again
Would be interesting to see how this pans out, but I’m a Mega Man fan from the very early days, I know that releasing a constant stream of new games and sequels means that quality has to decline. With the upcoming Townfall, Silent Hill has never been as alive as it has been, that however comes with some big issues. Quality will decline, even if many projects are tackled by different studios, I’m very sure that many things will go wrong if they fail to respect what Silent Hill is.
I want to play something that works like the first Silent Hill, which was truly the scariest game of them all. However, I’m at peace with the idea of the series remaining dead in the water forever, we can always come back to Silent Hill whenever we want by playing the older games. People don’t understand this, but old does not mean bad, nor does it mean outdated in some cases, many old games play much better than newer releases for some reason, and I’m speaking about stuff I’ve never played before, it’s kind of a strange feeling since I can’t have nostalgia for that.
