System Shock VR has been announced, and it looks like quite the interesting way to play the game on PC. Of course, VR is an extremely niche market and people just prefer to play regular games. Contrary to the popular belief pushed by alien CEOs that don’t seem to understand the emotions of people, real gamers don’t really care about tech advancements, they just care about fun games. I have a feeling that the gimmick for this one will get old quite fast, even the new Half Life game that released years ago got a mod to remove VR features as soon as it dropped.
System Shock VR has a chance
To cut on my negativity, there is a chance that this one might end up being quite the interesting VR game if things pan out well. There is a ton of potential on VR games, but as we can see nobody really managed to do anything interesting or worthwhile since the technology has been out there for decades now. Even Nintendo failed to do VR games with the VirtualBoy, one of the biggest fumbles they ever did. There’s a ton of hype and promises surrounding VR, but what it really is, its just strapping a monitor to your head.
System Shock VR might end up falling in the same pitfalls other VR games end up falling into, and it can also just fade into obscurity despite being a good title because the majority of gamers can’t afford a good headset. Not to mention that there really is no interest or demand on this kind of games, and it is also not the most inclusive type of technology when you take into account people can deal with motion sickness. So you have a niche over a niche, but hopefully System Shock VR has some sort of success in it.
