New Far Cry Title Reported to Enter Development

Far Cry

A new Far Cry game has reportedly passed the conceptualization stage and has now entered active development at Ubisoft, or it has left the pre-production stage, according to Insider Gaming. The new entry in the series is being built on the foundations of another shooter named codenamed Maverick which had extraction elements built into it but got canceled eventually, and will be used for the next Far Cry instead.

The new game is titled codenamed Kodiak, and is touted to be an open-world FPS with an emphasis on “player interactions and player-driven stories”, in other words, it’s the next-gen version of Far Cry. The game has also been described as “really ambitious” by sources and is currently far from it’s release which can take many years from now.

However, the upcoming mainline entry in the series, codenamed Blackbird, has had difficulties previously which resulted in the game getting delayed internally, but now it’s seemingly on it’s way forward and features a multiplayer component as well. During an internal interview at Vantage Studios, Charlie Guillemot had described Blackbird or Far Cry 7, as “honestly impressive” and as “Act One”, hinting that there could be multiple other titles (perhaps spinoffs) based on the overall gameplay structure of Blackbird, if the game gets a stellar reception.

The Far Cry titles so far has been largely based on the established gameplay structures of Far Cry 3 which was a major game changer in the franchise and had basically laid down the foundations of the consequent titles. Also, as the last entry in the series which is Far Cry 6, was not received as highly as the publisher was likely hoping for, the devs certainly have much to reinvent and innovate to make sure that the next title in the series manages to surpass Far Cry 6 in all the right ways.

However, Far Cry 2 is also considered as one of the more innovative titles in the series so Ubisoft can certainly look to it and consider bringing some of it’s elements for the next Far Cry.
