The ongoing mass layoffs in Xbox have not only resulted in job cuts for lots of developers across different studios, but have also impacted one of the biggest games of the platform which is none other than The Elder Scrolls 6. The current ‘Reset’ of Xbox has seen a total of 1600 staff losing their jobs this past week and 3200 employees scheduled to be let go by the end of the current fiscal year which is devastating for multiple studios, and now it’s confirmed that Bethesda Game Studios has also had a “crushing effect” due to the layoffs.
As told to IGN recently, the ongoing ‘Reset’ of Xbox has had a “crushing effect on morale” at Bethesda which is pretty much expected cause it’s hard to put out great work in an unstable environment.
“Their loss will have a substantial and cascading effect on the game and morale of this studio,” one Bethesda staff member stated. “It’s been a mix of every discipline: programmers, artists, and designers,” said another. “One person who’s been at the company since Morrowind was cut.”
“We were already running a tight ship and are worried about this delaying the game (though a final release date was not yet chosen as far as we know),” the dev said.
In an email sent to all staff recently, Bethesda boss Jill Braff has stated that the current layoffs and subsequent changes “reflect the realities of our industry and business – and our responsibility to ensure Bethesda is operating from a more stable foundation.”
“To be successful in the future, we need to change course,” Braff continued. “We must strengthen our business, return to sustainable growth, and ensure we can continue investing in our franchises and our players. I know that doesn’t make a day like today any easier.”
One of the biggest downsides to mass layoffs like these, is the disruption they can bring to any development team which can hamper the overall creative process severely.
Besides GTA 6, another game that can easily generate a monumental level of hype and anticipation, for all the good reasons, is none other than The Elder Scrolls 6 which is the successor of Skyrim, a genre-redefining experience that’s widely and rightfully considered as one of the greatest games of all time.
