Besides Insomniac’s upcoming Wolverine, another AAA title based on marvel’s iconic super characters is Blade which is currently being developed by Arkane studios, the makers of groundbreaking titles like the Dishonored series of games. But it’s been quite a while since we’ve seen or heard anything from the game, besides a short teaser trailer which was released back in 2023, however, Todd Howard from Bethesda has recently provided sort of an update from the game, indicating it’s turning out really great. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, he said the following on Marvel’s Blade:
“I’m not at liberty to say when [we’ll see more], but I saw some stuff just yesterday, and the folks at Arkane [Studios, the developers] are doing a really, really great job.”
The interview was originally given in May but was published just recently, which implies Arkane’s upcoming title is progressing along pretty well and hopefully, we don’t have to wait much longer before we get some concrete info or maybe a full length gameplay trailer.
Blade is not your typical Marvel protagonist and brings a more unique moveset which has the possibility to open up whole new ways of gameplay in both stealth and action scenarios that can be as innovative and memorable as the Dishonored titles. So yes, you can definitely keep your hopes high for Arkane to deliver a title that can stand proud to some of the best works from the studio.
Also, as Blade is a relatively obscure character in Marvel which means his powerset and abilities aren’t as familiar or well known as that of popular characters like Spider-Man and Wolverine, this can really provide openings for the studio to come up with fresh new gameplay mechanics and other innovative ideas.
The upcoming Marvel’s Blade is set in the city of Paris and puts the players in the shoes of the legendary Daywalker Eric Brooks, as they explore a fully original story set in a quarantined zone where a supernatural emergency situation is unfolding.
