Niantic has announced that Frigibax, the Dragon and Ice-type Pokemon from the Paldea region, will headline Pokemon GO’s upcoming June Community Day. Scheduled for Saturday, June 20, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time, the three-hour event will significantly increase the spawn rates for the rare creature in the wild. Trainers participating in the window will benefit from boosted Shiny encounter rates, alongside a chance to catch individuals featuring a special background.
Evolving the featured Pokemon during the event window provides a distinct competitive advantage for players looking to optimize their battle rosters. Players who evolve Arctibax—the mid-stage evolution—into Baxcalibur during the event or up to four hours afterward will unlock the exclusive Charged Attack, Glaive Rush. This limited-time move pool addition coincides with several passive gameplay multipliers, including double catch Candy, triple Stardust per capture, and a doubled chance for trainers level 31 and above to receive XL Candy.
The selection of Frigibax aligns with broader upcoming updates planned for the mobile game’s next competitive season, which runs from June 2 through September 8. The Paldean creature remains a highly sought-after pick due to its strong performance metrics in mainline titles and its recently revealed Mega Evolution in Pokemon Legends: Z-A. While the Mega variant has not yet debuted in the mobile title, the upcoming Community Day allows players to stockpile resources and high-stat specimens ahead of its eventual integration.
Beyond June, the studio has also outlined a return to a community-driven selection process for its late-summer programming. Trainers will be able to cast a single vote on the official Pokemon GO YouTube channel between May 30 and May 31 to determine the featured Pokemon for the August Community Day. The four candidates available for the upcoming ballot include Tadbulb, Nickit, Fidough, and Yamper. For players unable to participate in the upcoming June window, the game’s traditional December recap event is expected to offer a secondary opportunity to catch missed seasonal variants.
