Stellar Blade developer Shift Up has just confirmed that their upcoming game as well as the sequel to the popular action adventure title that came out in 2024, won’t be published by Sony as the studio will be taking measures to self-publish their next game.
“Development of the next Stellar Blade title is progressing smoothly, on track to meet our targeted quality standards,” Shift Up has stated in an update, while also confirming that further details on the game will be unveiled “within” this year. The developer also said the following:
“Starting with this next title, Shift Up will transition to a first-party service model. This will allow us to lead marketing strategies that fully reflect the distinctive identity of the Stellar Blade IP, and we expect to communicate the unique appeal of its universe to players more directly and effectively.”
It was first revealed back in March this year that Shift Up will be increasing focus for the company’s self-publishing capabilities that will enable the developers to receive a fair amount of the overall profit for themselves which will be far more than what many studios get for their games right now.
Shift Up has also confirmed that their next AAA title which is named ‘Project Spirits’, will be officially revealed later this year.
Stellar Blade was one of 2024’s best action adventure releases that also came out on the PC last year and went on to earn the title of the best-selling PlayStation exclusive on PC, surpassing other AAA heavyweights such as Marvel’s Spider-Man (both 1 and 2), God of War, Ghost of Tshushima and more. Stellar Blade’s staggering player counts on the PC also officially cemented the game as the highest selling Playstation port ever, which is a mighty impressive feat especially considering the games it outperformed and how little hype it had compared to the others.
