Released on April 17, PRAGMATA has already become one of the biggest critical hits from Capcom on Steam as the action adventure title has gotten 97% positive reviews on the platform as well as an exceptionally high SteamDB rating of 94.11% at the time of this writing. PRAGMATA has also received high praises from most of the critics with Gamespot giving it a score of 9 while IGN and Game Informer both gave an 8, Destructoid a 9.5 among other major websites.
The reviewers have lauded the game’s narrative as well as the gameplay mechanics’, with the former being called as an exceptionally heartfelt of an experience while the gameplay aspect is described as surprisingly fresh and innovative.
Capcom’s PRAGMATA was first announced back in 2020 and it was delayed multiple times with it’s initial release scheduled for 2022. And looking at it’s phenomenal reception, the added time has more than paid off, which speaks volumes for Capcom as a publisher as opposed to a lot of companies who may not allow that much of added time in order to provide a satisfying experience for the players.
Back in September last year, the game’s director had revealed that a huge reason for the delays is due to the game needing more balancing in it’s multi-faceted gameplay, here’s what he said:
”It’s a big reason for it [the delay],” Yonghee stated. “There was so much trial and error and back and forth just to see what could land and what works best.”
”Having the two mechanics, Diana’s hacking and Hugo shooting, has been one of the causes for us to put more time into that game,” he said. “We took our time to balance it all out.”
And looking at all the glowing reviews for PRAGMATA, they’re testaments to the fact that time and care can do wonders for any videogame, both critically and commercially.
