Housemarque has pulled back the curtain on the technical specifications for Saros, confirming that its upcoming third-person shooter will leverage the PlayStation 5 Pro to deliver near-native 4K visuals at 60 frames per second. Following a brief one-month delay, the title is now locked for an April 30 release. This marks the studio’s first major project since the critical success of Returnal, and the developers are clearly aiming to set a new technical benchmark for the platform’s mid-generation refresh.
The centerpiece of the Pro enhancements is the implementation of PSSR 2, the latest iteration of Sony’s AI-driven upscaling technology. Technical Director Seppo Halonen noted that the increased power of the Pro hardware allows for a higher base render resolution before upscaling occurs. While the game utilizes dynamic resolution scaling to maintain a fluid frame rate during intense bullet-hell sequences, the studio maintains that the image quality on the Pro remains significantly sharper than the standard model, effectively mimicking a native 4K output.
Beyond raw pixel counts, Saros focuses heavily on the sensory experience provided by the DualSense controller and the console’s Tempest 3D Audio engine. Creative Director Gregory Louden revealed that the game’s “Eclipse-driven” power weapons are tied directly to the adaptive triggers; a half-pull on the L2 button activates alt-fire modes like grenade launchers, while a full press triggers a devastating shield-based counterattack. The studio also claims to have refined haptic feedback to a degree that provides “special surprises” during gameplay, though they are keeping the specific details under wraps until launch.
Loading times are expected to be nearly instantaneous thanks to the PS5’s SSD architecture, ensuring that the fast-paced loop of Housemarque’s signature combat remains uninterrupted. With the game having already gone gold earlier this month, the development team is now focused on final polish. As one of the few confirmed first-party exclusives for the first half of 2026, Saros is positioned to be a crucial showcase for what Sony’s high-end hardware can achieve when paired with specialized arcade-inspired design.
