It was earlier reported that Playground Games’ upcoming open world RPG Fable was claimed to be delayed internally and was supposed to come out later this year, possibly in the nick of time before Rockstar’s open world behemoth Grand Theft Auto 6. This sparked all kinds of discussions among the fanbase but now everyone can rest easy as developer Playground Games has just confirmed that Fable is indeed on it’s way this Autumn for both PC and Xbox Series X|S platforms along with a PS5 port too at the same time.
Yesterday, X user @YooHoodY had tagged the official Fable X page with a message saying: “Really looking forward to Fable!” with a gorgeous screenshot of the upcoming role playing title. And quite surprisingly, the studio responded back with a wholesome tweet stating: “Excited to welcome you back to Albion in Autumn 2026”, also putting an end to all delay rumors of the upcoming game.
Jeff Grub (of Idle Sloth) had recently stated that he’s heard claims of the game being delayed internally although he believed that Microsoft still aims to release Fable in this year so it’ll likely come out couple months later than you expect. He said:
“I’ll say that I’ve heard that Fable has been pushed internally. That doesn’t mean that it’s coming out next year. Apparently they’re still trying to get it out this year, but they are worried about the launch of GTA6. And so if it’s getting delayed beyond the release of GTA6, that could push it into December, which might make it a prime candidate to get delayed into 2027.”
Fable was first showcased during this year’s Xbox Developer_Direct event which took place in January where it was announced that the open world RPG will arrive sometimes in Autumn this year, and thankfully you don’t have to wait any longer than that to experience the first title in the acclaimed series in many years.
