There has been rumors for a long while about a potential StarCraft shooter on the PC gaming platform. Apparently there’s now an actual development effort going on with this game, which is quite surprising since Blizzard has remained shut for a long while about this new project. What we know so far is very few, but it has been described as an open world first person shooter. Considering who Blizzard is as a company, it will probably be yet another competitive online game, but the open world part really feels like it does not have synergy well with this type of games.
StarCraft Shooter Game is real
Some believed it wasn’t real, but the StarCraft shooter is in fact an actual project being developed in house by Blizzard themselves, with the helps of people from The Initiative, a studio that recently went down. Grabbing experts on the field is a great idea and we can hopefully see something nice come out of this game for once. StarCraft is highly regarded as one of the best strategy games, however I would love it if this was StarCraft 3 instead of something derivative from a genre that constantly churns out new titles every day.
First Person shooters are plenty and we don’t really need to become oversaturated again with this, however, strategy games in the vein of StarCraft do feel like an extinct alien breed that needs to be revived in some way. I yearn for the days when the franchise was at its peak with StarCraft 2, and even if competitive was rather toxic it truly was part of the experience. Perhaps if this game succeeds, we can see a new entry in the classic strategy series that marked a generation and initiated an entire culture of e-Sports, only time will tell.
