Developer Crystal Dynamics has just suffered its fourth redundancy round in the past 12 months which has impacted 20 developers, however the studio has confirmed that they’re fully committed to their future Tomb Raider titles. In an official announcement on LinkedIn, the studio wrote:

“Today, Crystal Dynamics is reducing its workforce by 20 talented team members, split between some development personnel and some central operations roles. This is a difficult day for our studio, and we never make these decisions lightly, particularly after the restructuring we underwent last year.” The Studio added: “While we always strive to transition our people into new roles whenever possible, we have unfortunately reached a point where these departures are necessary.”

“We are incredible grateful for the passion and hard work these individuals have poured into our games and our studio. We are providing them with severance and job placement assistance to help them land their next opportunity. If you have openings or know of positions for talented developers, please contact us, and we’ll connect them.”

And lastly, they also assured that the departures won’t affect their upcoming Tomb Raider titles:

“We know that news like this can cause concern amongst our community. Crystal Dynamics remains fully committed to the future development of our already announced Tomb Raider titles. Today, however, our priority is supporting our colleagues who are moving on.”

The major titles that are currently under development by Crystal Dynamics are the Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Remake and the next-gen mainline entry in the series titled Tomb Raider: Catalyst which is set to release for the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S sometimes in 2027. And although the studio has lost another batch of developers in the most recent round of layoffs, it seems it won’t likely impact these two upcoming titles in any way so there’s that.
