Bungie to Expand Marathon Vault Capacity with Upcoming Patch

Bungie has announced a significant update for Marathon arriving next week, directly addressing widespread player frustration regarding inventory management. The developer confirmed that it will increase stack sizes for essential consumable items, a move intended to provide much-needed breathing room within player vaults.

Inventory logistics are a cornerstone of the extraction shooter genre, and in Marathon, the constant struggle to manage space for valuable gear and resources has become a persistent point of contention. According to the official Marathon Development Team social media updates, the upcoming changes will specifically target items such as ammunition, salvage, and grenades. By allowing more of these items to occupy a single inventory slot, Bungie aims to reduce the clutter that has hindered players from effectively storing their hard-earned spoils.

Next week, we are planning to make a change to free up a little more space in your Vault. We've seen the feedback on some stack sizes not feeling large enough and will be making the following change:

Beyond the adjustments to stack sizes, the developer is implementing improved organization tools. The update will introduce new vault filters specifically designed for keys and backpacks. These features are intended to streamline the sorting process, allowing players to locate specific items with greater efficiency during high-stakes sessions. At this time, it remains unclear whether these adjustments will be deployed via a server-side patch or if a client-side download will be required for the community.

This focus on inventory management is the latest in a series of rapid adjustments from the studio. Following the game’s recent launch, Bungie has shown a notable willingness to engage with community feedback to refine core systems. This includes recent pivots to microtransaction values and planned improvements to the game’s Reward Pass. While the development team continues to navigate balance adjustments for combat and player audio—some of which have required further refinement following initial overcorrections—the decision to prioritize vault capacity demonstrates a clear intent to alleviate one of the most immediate frustrations facing current Marathon players.
