Original Days Gone Gets Graphics Update

Days Gone, the 2019 title from Bend Studio, has been treated to a major graphics update for both PC and PS5, enhancing visuals and adding new features. The game, where gamers witness Deacon St. John struggle to survive in a world filled with Freakers, now offers gamers a visually stunning experience with a variety of enhancements.

First released on PlayStation 4, Days Gone has since also been on PC and most recently had a full remaster on PlayStation 5. The game takes place in an apocalyptic northwestern United States that has been devastated by a worldwide pandemic that has left the planet infested with Freakers. Players must travel through this hostile environment, fighting off or fleeing hordes of these monsters as they interact with several human factions, not all of which are welcoming.

The new Steam update improves the graphics of the game quite extensively. It utilizes ozone and spectral light simulations that increase the color tone of the game and the representation of the sky and sun, making them more realistic. This makes outdoor experience more interactive. The update also includes very dark nights, which makes the fear and risk factors more for players who go out at night. Developers have also doubled the shadowmap resolution when Shadow Quality is set to Highest, another visual quality improvement.

The update for players on Steam using a DualSense controller also includes full haptic feedback support. Update notes do make it clear, however, that a wired connection is required in order to get the most out of the feature.
Most fans have already been awed by the visual shift, with reference to the game’s radical new appearance. Such updates and all the additional content to view placed new hope back in the world of Days Gone around the potential of the game.

The patch, Build 18212596, is accompanied by a host of enhancements, including new sky and atmospheric simulation via ozone and spectral light simulation, enhanced screen space indirect lighting and ambient occlusion effects, and further enhancements to further advance the overall gaming experience.
