DICE Shares Early Look on Battlefield 6’s Destructible Environments

One of the staple features that separates the Battlefield series from all other first person shooters out there, is it’s fully destructible environments which provide not just jaw dropping visual spectacles but also realtime tactical value during gameplay. Made possible by the phenomenal physics capabilities of DICE’s Frostbite engine, the realtime, procedural destruction of Battlefield is a hallmark feature of the series, allowing unparalleled realism and emergent gameplay you won’t find anywhere in the entire genre.

And in a recent short clip, DICE has shared an early look of the destruction features that will be in the upcoming Battlefield 6, with a brief video showcasing a building blowing up to bits in a shower of explosion and realistic particle effects. The destruction of the side of the building also allows the user to quickly enter the newly-opened structure, which demonstrates that players will now be able to fully destroy many areas of the maps and gain tactical advantage in real time.

DICE has also provided a detailed explanation on how the destructible environments will shape the gameplay in Battlefield 6 and will open up whole new tactical opportunities for the player.

“Our goals for destruction are centered around adding further gameplay depth by allowing you to reshape the environment and transform your surroundings toward a tactical advantage. For example, barging through walls to surprise your enemies, reshaping the battlefield to create new paths into the capture zones, or taking down a building to take out an attacking squad.”

The article also states that there will be visual and audio cues which will let players know which parts of the environments can be blown to smithereens. Also, the rubble and debris from the destroyed buildings won’t disappear and players will be able to actually take cover behind them during gameplay which is a colossal technical feat that’s not available in any other shooter out there.

Battlefield 6 has been previously reported to arrive sometimes in the later half of 2025, but the game may very well be pushed far into 2026 considering the release of Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 6 which is currently slated to be released in fall 2025 as well.
