UK Government responds to the “Stop Killing Games” petition

We live in very dark times when it comes to gaming. Nowadays, nobody really owns their games, and this is a terrible problem. Online games are, however, impossible to own and play for an indefinite period of time. Yet that actually isn’t true, and its mere corporate propaganda to keep gamers in the dark. We at Infinite Start will cover the petition that will save the industry.

No owning, no buying

The Stop Killing Games petition was started to prevent companies from closing down their online only titles. The Crew by Ubisoft was used as the primary example, a game that was rug pulled out of people’s hands. After collecting almost 13.000 signatures, the government of the UK has finally responded. However, the answer is disappointing. The UK has been hellbent in trying to regulate the gaming landscape. This was done in part by imposing restriction over loot boxes, however, this didn’t apply to most games.

It shows that the UK Government is rather terrible when trying to apply their own laws. The UK government responds that:

“There are no plans to amend UK consumer law on disabling video games. Those selling games must comply with existing requirements in consumer law and we will continue to monitor this issue.” – The Petition

While the response might be disheartening, there is still hope and a battle to keep fighting. If 100.000 signatures are accrued, this issue can go to the UK parliament. One must not give up hope on this battle to try and preserve even online services. Another way to fight this battle, is to just not pay any money to the people behind these scams. There’s multiple ways to acquire them for free if you are a PC player. Gamers should keep fighting to make the medium the paradise that it once was.
